Seriously it was hard even writing the title of this post. I remember in college, during freshman year when, as the University Senator, I was super active politically and volunteered with a gay-rights organization and tried to educate people about rights for all on election day. astaphfir'allah.
I was totally unable to understand conservatism...I suppose I just couldn't understand how sooo many people identify themselves as gay....so I just took the libertarian route-- do what you please as long as you don't hurt other people. But understanding Islam, I will never be able to see anything past absolute repulsion. Haram!
So tonight as I scrolled through facebook I saw a few people praising these news. And I think how do people still believe that it is ok? The fact that I went through an enormous truth-searching journey in a pretty short amount of time (about 8 years), I don't understand why so many people are so stuck at their age and with all the literature and knowledge readily available. But I suppose it is easier to accept your gay friend than to shun them out...that's hard reality! But that's how we should react, because people need to understand that it is unnatural.
When I hosted at a restaurant I refused to seat two gay girls, my co-workers were surprised-- i'd assume because they knew me as a fun and modern person and didn't realize how tough I was on this subject. I think when I came in contact with people so conservative on the subject (back when) they came off as uneducated and non-forward thinking. But in fact they are even more educated and think forward for a better world.
that's my rant tonight :-/ Ya rabi inch'allah the world gets better.
